People in London Encouraged to Start Recycling More
Posted on: July 30th, 2010 by Justin BecksRight now people all over the world are being encouraged to do their part to help the planet. However, it now seems that people living in London get it brought to their attention more than other places. In fact, people living in this city are being asked to recycle more as large discrepancies have been revealed in recycling rates.
There is currently a 35 percent gap between the highest and the lowest recycling rates achieved by boroughs within the city. This is a number that the government wants to see lessened by more people recycling from all over the city.
A member of the environment committee, Gareth Bacon, said that recycling is one of the best ways for people to have an ongoing positive impact on the world that they live in. It is very important that everyone looks for practical ways to improve recycling rates across the capital. The best way to do this is to find out what works and what does not.
He did go on to add that London should consider waste as a resource. This waste could be used to improve Britain’s economic and environmental advantage.
The good news is that the latest rates from the borough of Hillingdon were found to have increased by four percent. This does exceed the area’s target. Cabinet member for the environment, Sandra Jenkins. said that these are the best figures that they have seen.
Overall, people all over the UK have to do their part for the government to achieve their goal of being one of the greenest governments of all time. To reach this goal, cities from all over the UK have to chip in and do their part.
