Power production by British Energy falls
Posted on: July 10th, 2008 by Lynnette AdamsonBritish Energy has made the announcement that the production of electricity at the firm has gone down by over seventeen per cent in the second quarter of 2008.
Between the first of April and the twenty ninth of June this year, the biggest nuclear power firm in the United Kingdom generated 11.4 terawatt hours of electricity compared to 13.8 terawatt hours in the same period a year ago.
The reduced electricity production by British Energy is attributed to the planned maintenance and refuelling which usually requires shutting down of the reactors for some time. Also the repair work being conducted as well age-related problems were to blame too. As per information from the National Grid, half of the nuclear reactors were not in operation by the time the reduced power production was announced.
As per a study done on behalf of Npower, fifty per cent of the employees who work in pubs believed their bosses were squandering energy. The study was conducted by YouGov and the results showed that fifty three per cent of the employees believed that the pub they worked in was squandering energy. Thirty eight per cent of the respondents on the other hand believed that they had been given encouragement to conserve energy at the pubs they worked in. also eighty two per cent of the respondents believed that it was important to conserve energy.
From the study, Npower has decided to launch a competition which will give pubs the opportunity to get an energy makeover at no cost. Four businesses will in the end get an energy makeover.
