Prime Minister Gordon Brown Says Low Carbon Economy is Important for the Future
Posted on: March 18th, 2010 by Justin BecksUK Primer Minister Gordon Brown has just recently highlighted the vital role in which a low carbon economy will play in the UK’s economic recovery. Mr Brown went on to discuss new transport projects, jobs and energy developments in a bid to help demonstrate the fact that the UK is working on increasing their green industry.
Brown also noted that the belief in Britain’s future is why they propose in the budget a new framework to stimulate nuclear and clean energy generation. This is why they are investing more to becoming a world leader in a £3 trillion market for low carbon environmental goods and services. This is an industry that could offer jobs to up to 400,000 people by 2015.
The prime minister also added that a new high speed rail network in the UK would provide a further symbol of the country’s ambition to grow their low carbon economy. However, this is an idea that has to spread around the whole world for the effects to be seen. One country’s fight to lower their carbon emissions is not enough.
Just last month the UK government announced their plans to open a wind turbine development in the northeast. This is an operation that could employ around 70,000 people by the time it is fully operational in 2020.
Thus, it would seem that the UK government is doing its job to really push for the low carbon economy. However, despite their best efforts, there are some environmental groups that fear the government is not doing enough. Of course, experts are quick to point out that it will be hard to simply “change” years of peoples’ lifestyles. Most of the public has been living without any regard to the planet at all, this is something that cannot simply change overnight. In this regard, the UK government has been doing well in getting people to actively take part in helping to lower the country’s carbon emissions.
