Renewable energy consumers suspect suppliers of inflating costs

A majority of people, almost 85% of those who use green power have indicated their belief that energy providers have earned huge profits from levying hikes in cost of gas and electricity. In a study commissioned by The Times, it was found that nPower, British Gas and E.O.N. have suffered damage to their image after an annual and stupendous hike in fuel costs making the average fuel payout per household to £1,300.
Though energy suppliers have tried to defend price hikes by saying that it was unavoidable, a majority of four out of five people have not bought into the argument. Popular public perception is that energy suppliers have hiked residential costs to improve their profit figures. A very small number of the respondents, just 6% support the price hike because they truly believe that the supplier has not had much choice.
In the meantime, a study conducted by Populus shows that the average householder has to walk the tightrope between increased cost of energy and hike in food expenses. Central heating was lowered by nearly 80% of people, low-energy bulbs are being used by 85% of people and economy in turning on lights is being practiced by 94% of people.
Consumer reactions have come in the form of a majority saying that they will change their energy provider. The remaining lot of people voted for tying up with energy providers for an extended period of time for a fixed cost.
