Renewable energy firm tries to win support
Posted on: June 6th, 2008 by Jenson BrayshawIn a bid to get the locals to support a wind energy project, the firm that is responsible for the development of the wind farm in East Staffordshire is organising a trip to Scotland for the locals.
Airtricity which is based in Ireland intends to finance a trip for approximately fifty people from Abbots Bromley to visit another of its wind farms called the Dalwinton wind farm. The Dalwinton wind farm is located close to Dumfries and the trip will be on the fourteenth of June which falls on a Saturday. The trip will be by bus and will take four hours and officials from Airtricity will accompany the locals.
The campaigners who are against the wind farm say the move is meant to hoodwink the locals into accepting the wind farm to be set up in the area. Alex Fox, the leader of the East Staffordshire Borough Council and who is also the council of the Bagots ward, observed that the trip would not help in demonstrating to the locals how the wind farm which was planned to be located at the Bagots Park site would affect their lives and environment. The councillor of Bagots ward argued that the wind farm which the locals were being taken to see was completely dissimilar to the one that was planned for their area and therefore the trip was of no consequence.
Robert Hardwick the councillor of Crown ward warned that the renewable energy company was likely to provide information which was not objective in order to influence judgement in its favour.
