Renewable Energy Generators Get Boost From Feed in Tariffs
Posted on: February 10th, 2010 by Lynnette AdamsonReports from NPower are showing that more consumers are now choosing to install renewable energy generators in their home. The report goes on to suggest this is all do to the feed in tariffs, which are giving a boost to the renewable energy sector.
NPower said that its inquiries regarding solar panels, one of the most common types of renewable energy generators for home use, had increased by 200 percent since July 2009. This increase ties in with the government’s announcement of feed in tariffs, which will allow consumers to earn money from any surplus electricity that they generate in their home. Thus, for the first time, it will pay to go green.
The director of energy services at NPower, Julia Lynch Williams, said that according to government calculations and reports, consumers generating their own electricity from solar PV panels could earn approximately £986 per year from tax free generation payments and bill savings combined. Thus, over time, this is an investment that would, not only pay for itself, but could end up putting money back in the pocket of the consumer.
Julia also went on to add that the new arrangement will make solar energy a more attractive investment for just about everyone. Due to the cost, many people had to shy away from these kinds of renewable energy investments. However, now that these investments have a shot at paying form themselves, everyone can look into them.
According to reports done by NPower, an available source of solar energy in the home requires at least ten square meters of free south facing roof space. This set up will make the most out of solar panels installed on the home.
