Report Shows Children as Being the Biggest Energy Wasters

When people think about the biggest energy wasters, many think about adults. However, anyone that has kids knows that this may not be the case. In fact, while adults might use the most energy in the home through cooking and washing, it is actually children who are viewed as being the biggest energy wasters, according to a new study.

Apparently, over a quarter of respondents to uSwitch.com’s new survey said that their kids are not good at saving energy. The kids are blamed for leaving lights on, TVs and even computers. Many tend to leave a lot of their electronics in stand by when they are not using them.

On top of this, children were also accused of having multiple appliances on at the same time. For example, the survey found out that most kids use the TV and the computer at the same time. Some even have a radio going at the same time. Some parents are baffled as who needs the TV and radio on at the same time.

Despite all of this, 63 percent of those surveyed said that everyone in their household is aware that they are wasting energy. The director of consumer policies at uSwitch.com said that, in the face of rising energy bills and everyone’s ever-growing love affair with electronic gadgets, consumers can no longer afford to waste energy.

This survey found that almost six in ten households do not have enough energy efficiency devices. Just 14 percent of people use standby savers when not using their computers. On top of that, 37 percent of people who responded openly admitted to leaving their TV on all or at least most of the time.
