Scottish and Southern Energy financial results out
Posted on: June 6th, 2008 by Emma YoungScottish and Southern Energy which is an energy utility based in Perth has announced that growth figures show that it is on the way to getting nine million customers by the close of this year. This was said by the chief executive officer of the energy firm, Mr. Ian Marchant.
By the close of March this year, Scottish and Southern Energy had close to eight and a half million accounts which saw it emerge as the second largest energy supplier in the United Kingdom. But in spite of the significant gains that the energy utility had made, the company said that it was losing money due to the high wholesale prices that were being charged for energy, especially in the prevailing circumstances.
Among the giant energy suppliers in the country, Scottish and Southern Energy was among the last to raise its prices and has promised to maintain them as they are for as long as it can. However if commodity prices remained high or continued their rising streak then the energy supplier would be forced to increase its prices.
In its financial results Scottish and Southern Energy managed a 13.9 per cent increase in adjusted pre- tax profit to hit1.23 billion sterling pounds.
The chief executive officer of Scottish and Southern Energy Ian Marchant said that the company was not a party to the bidding for British Energy though he said that SSE was still interested in making its contribution to the growth of nuclear energy capacity in the United Kingdom.
A statement released by Scottish and Southern Energy observed that energy was undergoing rapid transformation and promised to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions by fifty per cent by the year 2020.
