Scottish Environment Minster Giving Advice on How to Save Water

Posted on: July 20th, 2010 by Justin Becks

It now seems that people in Scotland are being urged to save as much water as possible. In fact, people in Lockerbie have actually received help and advice from the Scottish environment minister on how to save on water.

This environment minister, Roseanna Cunningham, helped staff from Scottish Water distribute leaflets to the Dumfires and Galloway communities. Her visit comes as water supplies have been dwindling in the country. This is due to some of the driest periods in decades.

Ms Cunningham said that Dumfires and Galloway have experienced some of the direst weather recorded in decades, and despite the rainfall over the last week, reservoir levels in this area continue to be a major concern for people. However, people are not in a drought situation yet. The low levels in the reservoir mean that people need to take proactive steps to manage their water resources for the rest of the summer.

Houses that are in the affected areas have received help from Scottish Water to reduce their water consumption. Some of the water advice includes using save a flush bags in toilet cisterns and not using hosepipes to wash cars and water gardens.

Although this advice was just given to the affected areas, others point out that this advice could be used everywhere. The more water that people can save, the better. People want to do all they can right now to help the environment, and saving water is a major step. Experts also point out that people can look online and easily find information on other ways to save water as well.
