Seven additional wind turbines approved
Posted on: May 7th, 2008 by Kelsie MorganThe Coldham Wind Farm has been permitted by councillors to add seven more wind turbines following a special meeting.
The councillors in Fenland agreed to the adding of more wind turbines which will cost some sixteen million pounds. The total number of wind turbines will now come to fifteen. During the special meeting, members of the public as well as applicants for the extension were all granted a hearing.
The councillors however did not give TCI Renewables permission to build an independent single wind turbine at the Anglian Water location.
One of those opposed to the move was Trevor Watson, who implored the local authority to come up with a policy that would guide the setting up of wind turbines in the future. He observed that the adding of wind turbines was being done on what seemed to be an ad hoc basis.
A campaigner from Cambridgeshire Environment and Wildlife Protection complained that Fenland now had too many wind turbines and that there needed to be clear guidelines on building of turbines.
Martin Curtis, the chairman of the Planning Committee defended the council’s decision saying it was not biased in any way.
The Sustainable Development Manager of the Co-operative Group, Rob Ellis, was delighted by news of the granting of permission to TCI Renewables. He added that once the project was finished the wind farm would be able to meet twenty per cent of the electricity requirements in Fenland.
The wind turbine whose application was turned down was rejected since it would have been a blot on the landscape of Fenland.
