Solaire Generation To Revolutionize Parking Lot Design

Posted on: July 22nd, 2009 by Jason Drew

Parking lots are an everyday vital part of global transportation.  Typically parking lots adhere to a standard design.  Easily constructed and hastily built, parking lots are usually an uncreative endeavor mapped out solely for convenience.  However, a solar power company based out of New York is announcing a green alternative to the standard parking lot design.

Solaire Generation will launch a line of solar parking canopies to be used in outdoor lots as a means of conserving valuable energy.  The company announced its design at the Intersolar North America conference held in San Francisco.

The canopy would create a shelter for the parked cars and simultaneously house PV solar panels that would collect sustainable energy.  The company also proposed designs that would incorporate additional features such as water collection systems and advertising space.

The minimal idea could help maximize previously wasted space and help save on energy consumption.  The canopy would be able to cover up to one thousand parking spaces.  Additionally the canopies are capable of being outfitted with charging stations for electric vehicle plug in.

Solaire also unveiled a new design for solar powered tree-shaped structures which could house wireless and solar charging stations for electric motor vehicles.  The Solaire design is similar to the Toyota Prius “solar flowers” already on the market.
