Utility firms refuse to sign energy deal to assist the poor

Headline

Following a refusal to sign up for a deal by the "big six" utility firms, a £1 billion fuel-poverty package sponsored by the UK government has gone awry. Prime Minister Gordon Brown's undersecretary of state with the Department of Business, Baroness Vadera, is said to be spearheading the effort. She held last-minute negotiations with top officials from UK's foreign utility firms.

Hike in energy bills by Npower and Scottish Power

Headline

Npower and Scottish Power joined the line of prominent energy providers now counting six to have hiked their gas and electricity rates. A 9% hike is expected from Scottish Power for electricity and a whopping 34% increase in gas cost. Npower's figures are 14% and 26% increase in electricity and gas bills respectively.

Thousands across UK suffer 29% rise in gas and electricity costs

Thousands of homes across the UK will bear the brunt of rising costs after announcements from two energy providers that a 29% hike was going to take place. Scottish and Southern Energy who share 8.8 million consumers have taken the decision to increase gas costs by 29.2% and electricity by 19%.
