Tidal Power to Play Big Role in Future Energy Projects

Posted on: September 2nd, 2010 by Lynnette Adamson

It now seems that the way forward for renewable energy may be tidal power. Apparently experts are now saying that tidal power projects now have a chance to play a very big role in the future of the UK’s energy saving needs.

According to one trade organization, Renewable UK, tidal power leaves a very small ecological impact when compared to other developments in the renewable energy field. This means that large quantities of tidal energy machines can be made without disturbing communities. However, on shore wind power schemes frequently face opposition from local residents.

Adam Bell, the national campaigns coordinator for Renewable UK, said that tidal power projects are only likely to be seen by those living nearby. He went on to add that any proposed tidal project must first pass a stringent environmental assessment to ensure they are not putting any risk to wildlife.

Earlier this month, Marine Current Turbines and RWF announced their plans to create a 70 million pound tidal power scheme. It will feature seven turbines off the coast of Anglesey.

Of course, some people are against tidal power as well. They go on to say that it could cause too much harm to groups of fish and underwater habitats. Many other experts snap back saying that there is someone always against one thing or another. People don’t want people using oil, but they do not want wind turbines built close to home. On that same note, they are afraid the tidal machines may hurt fish. At some point, people will have to agree on something or everyone will run out of options.
