Toyota Announces Plans to Cut UK Carbon Footprint
Posted on: August 5th, 2010 by Samantha DonovanIt now seems that the well known, and well loved, Japanese car manufacturer Toyota has just launched a new plan. This new plan apparently is designed to help reduce its carbon footprint in the UK. The company is already considered to be the leader in the car manufacturer field. The company became the first manufacturer to see its average carbon dioxide emissions fall below 130g/km.
However, Toyota said that it does not want to stop here. The company said that it still plans on further reducing its environmental impact. Reducing vehicle population is just one factor that it has going for itself.
While working alongside the Carbon Trust, Toyota is now preparing to implement an eight step environmental plan. Each of the car giant’s 200 centers will be assessed on its current energy use. Then steps will be taken on ways to reduce any excess electricity and gas consumption that the center could be using. In the end, this would reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
Toyota’s manager for corporate social responsibility, Thomas Rosselle, said that the company’s centers achievements in reducing their carbon footprint will achieve many things. Not only will it be beneficial to Toyota, but it will also be beneficial to the community and the world.
Based on the results of a pilot scheme last year, Toyota is confident that it can bring emissions from the entire center network down by around 15 percent within a year. This is a big statement for any business, but Toyota is confident that it will be able to deliver on this claim. Green groups are hoping that other car manufacturers will follow in Toyota’s footsteps.
