Trafford School to Install ‘Green Roof’
Posted on: January 6th, 2008 by adminSale Grammar School, in Grafford, will have solar panels installed after a grant from the Co-operative Group. The panels are worth about £20,000.
The school will be one of 100 schools across the UK to benefit from the group’s £1m Green Energy for Schools scheme.
Headteacher David Wilson said: “To be one of the 100 schools in the country chosen to receive free solar panels is fantastic. Other teachers commented that the panels will assist in reducing Sale Grammar’s carbon footprint, while helping the pupils learn about climate change.
Wilson went on to say,”Schools have a vital role to play in educating the next generation about climate change, and using this renewable energy technology to power our premises will help us to really bring that message home to pupils, parents and staff.”
The Co-operative Group became the first retailer in Britain to switch all its mainland outlets to `green’ electricity last year.
In addition, the Co-operative Group worked in conjunction with ScottishPower to launch a wind farm at Coldham, Cambridgeshire.
The CIS tower in Miller Street, Manchester, has the largest vertical array of solar panels in Europe, which in combined force create 180,000 units of renewable electricity each year, enough to make nine million cups of tea.
