Turbine maker to get Iowa State grants

A wind turbine maker based in Texas is to get a grant of six hundred and thirty thousand dollars after getting approval from the economic development officials in the state. The manufacturer of wind turbine towers intends to start a factory in Newton.

The firm, Trinity Structural Towers Inc. had submitted an application for the grant to assist it in building a plant in Newton at a cost of twenty one million dollars, creating one hundred and forty employment opportunities. In addition to the grant the firm also got tax breaks.

Newton city could use as much as 1.2 million dollars in the relocation of a street and in making improvements in a bid to accommodate Trinity Structural Towers.

The senior vice president of Trinity Industries, Mark Stiles admitted that they were delighted to be extending to the city of Newton. He further revealed that the wind power market was central to the growth strategy of their company as he expressed hope that their new location in Iowa had placed them in a position with great prospects of growth.

Trinity Structural Towers is a unit of Trinity Industries Inc. which is based in Dallas and which also manufactures heavy metal products.

Chet Culver, the governor stated that the project would assist Iowa in attaining its targets of renewable energy generation. He admitted that his role as governor was to exploit the full potential of Iowa and position it as the foremost renewable energy city in the country.

Currently Iowa is in the fourth position regarding wind energy production trailing behind California, Minnesota and Texas in no particular order.
