Thanks to engineer Andy Stanford Clark, Twitter has been proven to be able to help monitor the amount of energy a home uses. This can be done by way of Twitter on the mans mobile phone.

Andy Clark, computer engineer, has been able to install a number of sensors on appliances that run through his house. This includes on electricity meters, heaters, and so on. These sensors are placed throughout every room of his house on the Isle of Wight.

The sensors that are set up around Andy’s house are then connected back to his Twitter account. Since Twitter allows people to access it by way of mobile phone, Andy is actually able to use his phone to get updates on the energy usage in his house. This includes how heat is being used on his property.

Mr Clark told reporters that he said that he got updates on Twitter all the time about how his friends are doing and so on. Thus, he did not see why it was not possible to get updates on how his house was doing when he was away. He went on to say that this just shows how these networking sites, like Twitter, can be used differently when people think outside the box. Although they are already useful, there is so much more that they can do.

Right now, Clark has his Twitter account set up so that it sends him an update every time £10 worth of power has been used. This way he can find out just how much power is being used throughout the day when he is not there.

New studies have proven that Twitter is one of the fastest growing websites in the last 12 months.
