UK Battery Supplier Axeon is Working on a Hybrid Car

Posted on: October 8th, 2010 by Jason Drew

It now seems that the well known UK-based lithium ion battery supplier Axeon has said that it is working on a project to create a pioneering hybrid car. This new car is suppose to change the way people view hybrids forever.

Axeon went on to say that they have joined automotive technology, innovation and system integration provider Ricardo on the project. This car is going to be launched by a leading, but unnamed, European car manufacturer. The company to release the car will not be named for some time now.

The chief executive of Axeon, Lawrence Berns, said that this car will transform the way people think about hybrid cars in every area. However, it will really change the way they think about hybrid cars in terms of performance.

He went on to say that their technology will play a key role in underlining their power in this competitive field. They will show that hybrids can offer significant advances to performance, as well as environmental benefits. People do not have to choose one or the other.

Apparently the company is going to create a plug-in hybrid vehicle with a battery system using Nanophosphate lithium iron cells. The aim here is for the battery to be ultra lightweight and have a liquid cooled battery pack.

During all of this, Ricardo is going to create the mechanical, electrical hardware and software for the battery pack. This does include the thermal design of it.

This news comes as a number of well known global car manufactures work to develop low carbon technologies in their latest model cars. Many of these cars are going to be shown off at the Paris Motor Show next year.
