UK Could Gain a Lot from Marine Energy
Posted on: May 4th, 2011 by Justin BecksAccording to new reports, the UK may have more to gain from marine energy than what was first thought. In fact, the marine energy market could be generating some £76 billion for the UK by 2050, according to the Carbon Trust.
Experts at the Carbon Trust are also saying that the marine energy sector could generate a lot of jobs. Depending on how marine energy catches on, the UK could be making certain technology and deploying it around the world. If this happens, then this sector could create jobs for some 68,000 people. This is just yet another reason why so many people are getting on board with the marine energy industry.
However, another reason why so many people are pushing for marine energy is for the simple fact that it could really produce a lot of energy for the UK. In fact, the Carbon Trust says that marine energy could be making about 27.5 GW of power for the UK by 2050. This means that it would be able to supply just over a fifth of the whole country’s electricity needs.
The director on innovation over at the Carbon Trust, Benj Skyes, said that marine energy could be a major success in the UK. If the UK is to get on board early with this idea, then it could turn this into a big market. It would not only generate a lot of jobs, but it would also generate a lot of clean energy. This is technology that could be sold to the rest of the world to help them reach their low-carbon goals.
