UK Emigration Boom Will Cause Brits to Face a Multimillion Pound Green Tax Bill
Posted on: December 30th, 2010 by Lynnette AdamsonAccording to experts, the boom in emigration to the UK means that Brits are going to be faced with a multimillion pound green tax bill. This tax will be used to pay for the environmental impact of what these emigrants have on the UK environment.
A recent study by MigrationWatch shows that net emigration will push Britain’s population over 70 million. This will be done by adding another seven million people to the UK’s total population by 2033. It goes on to say that such a dramatic increase will see the UK’s greenhouse gas emission rise by 515 million tons.
However, this is not an increase that is going to go on checked. It now seems that the government may have taxpayers left holding the bill. Experts have already warned that figures could rise by an amazing £548 per household by 2025. This is just more than what most households can afford to pay.
The government is still committed under the Climate Change Act to reduce UK emissions by 80 percent by 2050. Due to this, the government has to do whatever it can to reduce carbon emissions. In order to stay on track, greenhouse emissions in the UK will need to fall by 240 million tons by 2033.
However, this report shows that the population increase over this period is going to add 33 million tons of carbon every year. It will be hard to reach this goal if the country continues to pump out more carbon emissions than what it is already doing. Thus, it is easy to see why some people are starting to see emigration as an “environmental” threat.
