UK Government Makes Clear Statement on Reaching Carbon Emissions Goals
Posted on: July 20th, 2009 by Tessa ClarkeAlthough there has been much to say in favor of the UK government’s plan for reducing Carbon emissions, there has yet to be a very clear cut goal that the government has announced to support it. Just last week, to help jump-start the green energy revolution in Britain, the ministers came forward to explain clearly how Britain expects to reach its goal on reducing carbon emissions over the next decade.
The cabinet had already said that the nation would be generating about 15 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2020. However, now they have said how this very radical change will come about. One major point of it was do achieve this by way of wind power. They go on to say that new planning laws will now make it just that much easier to build onshore wind farms, while a total of £160 million in funding is to be provided to help promote offshore wind technology.
Experts say that turbines will soon dominate the nation;s countryside, as well as its seashore. Of course, other measures have also been introduced. For example, the government will also be spending large sums of money to make homes energy efficient and introduce smart meters.
Although a lot of top areas were touched on, it seems that the government is placing a large amount of its money towards wind power. This is set to rapidly change how the UK gets energy forever. Overall, the government’s main concern is to come up with ways to cut down on carbon emissions in order to reach the goal that they set for themselves.
