Right now the UK is seeing the earliest snowfall in some 17 years. This early snowfall has caught many people off guard. Now, more than ever, households in the UK are being urged to consider new insulation to cope with what could be months of cold weather.

The insurance firm Aviva has called on consumers to insulate their pipes to help prevent them from freezing and bursting. It has also been suggested that water tanks, boilers and cisterns should have insulating jackets to stop them from freezing as well. A 75mm thick hot water cylinder jacket could save around 35 pounds a year in lower energy bills.

Confused.com is advising consumers to take advantage of loft and cavity wall insulation grants. Some deals could see people over the age of 70 get insulation for free. Homeowners not eligible for a grant can still find a rerun on their investment from cavity wall insulation in around two years. People could save around 110 pounds a year in energy bills.

The comparison site advised people who are not concerned about having to turn up their heating during the snowfall to provide regular meter readings to their suppler. They can see if they are considered to be in fuel poverty and seek financial assistance.

Overall, these are all good ideas to help people save money. Even if people are not trying to save money, try installing this kind of insulation anyway. It will end up saving the person money, and it is doing great for the environment. At least people can feel good that they are doing their part to help out.
