UK Retailers Report Consumers Stockpiling Light Bulbs

Posted on: August 28th, 2009 by Justin Becks

Many UK retailers have now reported a huge increase in the number of consumers that seem to be stockpiling standard 100 watt light bulbs. This new report comes just ahead of the new law that will ban manufacturing transitional light bulbs.

Apparently, the European Union will soon be outlawing transitional light bulbs, which will stop being manufactured as of September 1st. However, in light of the news, many UK consumers are simply stocking up on all of the light bulbs that they can get their hands on so that they can carry on lighting their house how they see fit.

Lesley Urrutia, who has run Pilton electrical in Cardiff for 25 years, said that it seems like the elderly consumers are the most worried about this new ban. When speaking to the BBC she went on to say that it seems like they are worried about the ban, because they do not like the new energy saving light bulbs that will have to be used. Lesley went on to say that some of these people are now in a panic and are buying up all of the traditional light bulbs that they can find before they become impossible to find.

What a lot of people do not know is that switching to the new energy saving light bulbs can actually save homeowners a lot of money. In fact, it has been reported that the new energy saving light bulbs use about 75 percent less energy than a traditional light bulb. They also tend to last about six to ten times longer.
