UK Sees the Launch of Biomass Boilers

Posted on: August 18th, 2010 by Beth Williams

It now seems that the first boiler to run on wood pellets or logs has finally been launched in the UK. The wood burning appliance manufacturer, Euroheat, has just released their biomass boiler. Apparently it can switch between two fuels automatically and has no need for gas, oil or electricity at all.

Reports from a consumer watchdog went on to say that installing the boilers would be the most effective in rural areas that have no main gas line. Lizzy Ruffles, who is the boiler expert at the consumer watchdog said that the Biomass is considered a carbon neutral source of energy. Although it does produce carbon dioxide when it is burnt, it only releases roughly the same amount it absorb when growing.

She went on to add that the biomass system is a good option for central heating and, of course, hot water without the need for an electric storage heater or a conventional oil powered boiler. Thousands of homes in the UK have already benefited from the government’s Boiler Scrappage Scheme. This is a scheme that offers vouchers to contribute to the cost of replacing an old boiler with a new more energy efficient system.

This scheme was, of course, launched to help kick start the industry and urge people to upgrade their home heating systems. It now seems that this new Biomass Boiler could really help out certain homes that are located in rural areas.

Overall, people in the UK have been really turning their attention to making their homes more energy efficient. This is not just because the UK has been trying to do all it can to lower its carbon footprint, but also, consumers are doing what they can now to save money. Many are finding out that they can save money by saving energy.
