UK Talks of Nuclear Power Plant Construction Sites
Posted on: April 17th, 2009 by Lynnette AdamsonLately, the UK government has been coming up with ways to increase the amount of power that they can make for themselves. While falling behind in things like wind and solar power, the UK government is talking of building some nuclear power plants. The hope is that these nuclear power plants could help the UK avoid a big energy shortage that is just about six years away.
Some of the places that have been listed as a great spot to place a nuclear power plant are spots like Braystones and Kirksanton, which are close to Lake District national park. There are also nine other locations that are being considered as well.
However, some companies like McKinnon and Clarke, which is one of the UK’s biggest energy consultancy, says that even these big nuclear power plants would not be enough to stop lights from going out in 2015. In fact, some say that these plants will not even be ready until 2018. Thus, they say that the government is doing way too little, way too late.
The big energy shortage is going to come in 2015 when coal fired power stations and old generation stations are no longer in use. Many experts just say that 2015 is no longer an option for the UK. On top of that, 2018 still seems to be a little too ambitious as well.
The government, however, is very positive towards this new idea. They feel that this is a great project that shows that they are making steps forward to help keep the lights on in the UK and keep carbon emissions down.
