United Nations Members Meet For More Climate Talks
Posted on: April 14th, 2010 by Jenson BrayshawIt seems that United Nations members have just recently meet in Bonn on April 9th through April 11th. Here the members were taking part in the first climate conference since the Copenhagen Climate Summit. Diplomats from all over the world met to agree on targets for emissions reductions, as well as discuss plans to keep global temperature increases at two degrees Celsius.
On top of this, more schemes were laid out to force developed countries to transfer funds to the developing world in order to implement technology and infrastructure that will keep emissions to a minimum. However, the environment charity group Greenpeace has called for a tougher action and a stronger commitment to be taken by these members.
The Greenpeace international climate policy coordinator, Wendel Trio, said that governments around the world must adopt a plan in Bonn that reflects the urgency of the global climate crisis. It has to be a plan that bridges the gap between where science tells the world where it needs to be and where politicians are taking it. It has to be a plan that will achieve the legally binding deal that the planet needs in order to avert catastrophic climate changes.
Countries around the world have been doing what they can in order to stop global warming. However, many groups say that the things that are being done are not enough. They say that it may have been enough many years ago, but things have just gotten worse, and countries with the power to do so need to step up to the plate.
