The online and phone based company that helps customers compare prices and switch energy companies announced that most people are still overpaying on their power bills despite the recent energy price cuts that have been put into affect.

In 2008, uSwitch said that most people were paying around £912 in January of 2008. However, this number rose to £1,293 in 2009. This is a jump that uSwitch says is too big to just overlook.

The price rises that were done by energy suppliers added almost £4.3 billion to the households located in the UK. With the recent price cuts, this number has been dropped down by £650 million. Although it has helped a little, uSwitch still says that this leaves a deficit of £3.7 billion.

The director of consumer policies at uSwitch says that the 4.3 percent energy cuts (which is a £56 cut) it going to seem very small compared to the 42 percent hike up in prices last year (which is a £381 rise).

uSwitch also noted that a lot of families that are counting on the lowering of the power bill may be disappointed in their up coming bills. Most families in Britain are cutting back on basic household items in order to meet their monthly energy bills.

Customers can use uSwitch services to help find the best deals offered by the leading power companies. Then uSwitch will help customers switch to the new energy company. This is a free service that is offered by uSwitch, and customers can use this service to look for lower prices on power, gas, home phone, and broadband.
