Van Emissions Could be Reduced with Smaller Engines

Posted on: June 30th, 2010 by Emma Young

Apparently fleets could reduce their fuel consumption and cut down on the amount of carbon dioxide that they put out simply by changing their vans. According to recent research that was conducted by TNO and CE Delft on behalf of Transport and Environment, said that new vans could be up to 16 percent more fuel efficient and ten percent cheaper to buy with just a few changes.

These reductions could be achieved simply by using a smaller engine in the van. This would change the amount of fuel that the van needs to run. The news comes as the Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive has been name the Green Engine of the Year for 2010.

Car maker Toyota has claimed that this is the fourth time in about five years that the engine has been awarded this prize. Auris Hybrid is one of Toyota’s models to feature the engine as well. Judges said that the vehicle is the essence of mechanical, electric and electrical ingenuity in one affordable package. They went on to say that this is still the best green technology available on the market. It’s reliable, it’s durable, and it also has a very low real life carbon dioxide emission.

Overall, this is not just good for Toyota, but good for the general public as well. Right now the UK government is doing what it can to lower carbon emissions. All of this work that has been put in by the government is causing the general public to want to do their part as well. This means that people are looking into all areas of their life and seeing where they can make changes to help the environment. Switching what kind of car they are driving is just one option people are coming up with.
