Vestas Sees Increase In Wind Turbine Orders
Posted on: August 11th, 2009 by Beth WilliamsVestas UK has made headlines lately for the protests being held at their now closed wind turbine facility on the Isle of Wight. In other news, however, Vestas has just received a product order for the Orites project in Cyprus. The company will provide 41 2 MW wind turbines for the project, as well as retain a five year service agreement once the turbines are installed.
Additionally the wind turbine manufacturer has also received orders for wind turbines for a wind plant in South Australia. The new orders are welcome amidst a dwindling wind energy market during the recession.
The Orites project is the first wind energy plant to be installed in Cyprus, and will be installed in a mountainous region in the southwestern corner near Paphos. Vestas will begin installing the wind turbines at the end of 2009, and the project is slated for completion sometime during the summer of 2010.
The Orites project is estimated to have upon completion a total annual output of 128 GWh (gigawatt-hours) with an installed capacity of 82 MW. The island is aiming to reach a goal of 13% dependancy on renewable energy by 2020.
The South Australia project, titled Waterloo Wind Farm, has also order turbines from Vestas totaling 37 units of 3 MW turbines. The order similarly calls for delivery and commissioning, however the contract calls for a 10 year service agreement with Vestas.
The project is also scheduled to begin in late 2009, and installation will happen sometime in 2010. The Waterloo Wind Farm is being handled by Roaring 40s Renewable Energy Pty Ltd.
