Volkswagen Speaks of New Green Cars
Posted on: September 25th, 2009 by Justin BecksVolkswagen has now unveiled some new information about a new car that will be making its way to its green fleet. This was just one of the many cars that were talked about at the Frankfurt Auto Show that took place this week.
The German car maker showed off its plans to introduce the world to its brand new electric car called the E-Up. This is a car that is reportedly able to travel up to 130 kilometres before needing to be recharged. However, this does of course, depend on the driving style of the owner.
Volkswagen hopes that this new car will be in production as soon as 2013. It has also been noted that this new car could meet the levels of Volkswagen’s other popular models as soon as 2020. This would be a big breakthrough for the car maker, since environmentalists have been putting a lot of pressure on car makers to come up with more eco friendly cars.
The chief executive of Volkswagen, Martin Winterkorn, said that one of the basic milestones on this car’s time line is to make it a mass produced electric car. He went on to say that this concept car that is now being presented in Frankfurt shows just how realistic this goal is. He hopes the car will attract drivers, since electricity is one of the best renewable resources that cars can operate on. However, it seems like many other car companies have failed to make an electric car that has really appealed to the average car user.
Martin finished up by saying that the future will belong to lower emission cars. This is something that Volkswagen believes they can get on board with, thanks to the E-Up.
