Volkswagen Unveils Concept of an Electric Taxi
Posted on: April 23rd, 2010 by Emma YoungIt now seems that Volkswagen has just recently presented their concept version of is new electrical taxi. This concept car was shown off at the Hanover Trade Show. As many people can already guess, this car can offer a lot to the world in terms of saving on carbon emissions.
This car, which is being called the Milano Taxi, is finished in the traditional green and black of current Milan taxis. It has been developed as a study into the possibility of offering mass market, emission free electric taxis.
The taxi itself is powered by a lithium ion battery. The vehicle will take just over an hour to reach about 80 percent of its capacity. Thus, it should be an easy car to keep full of power. The electrical power source is not expected to hold the vehicle back. In fact, the car should have a driving range of up to 186 miles and should be able to reach a top speed of 75 miles an hour.
The car has been presented as a concept, but the company is working towards latching a mass market electric vehicle by 2013. Thus, this concept car could be a lot closer to reality than what most people actually think.
The company is hoping to hold its own against Mercedes Benz. As some may remember, Mercedes Benz has already come up with their own prototype electrical vehicle that they wanted to be used as a taxi as well.
This car could offer a lot to the world in terms of zero carbon emissions. It would offer people a way of getting around the city quickly without having to worry about their carbon footprint.
