Wales Coastline to Become Hotspot For Eco-Friendly Tourism
Posted on: July 22nd, 2009 by Emma Young£25million ($40m) has recently been granted by the Welsh Assembly Government to promote green tourism around the country. Included in this grant is £9million to help finish the All Wales Coastal Path by the 2012 London Olympics.
The All Wales Coastal Path is an 850 mile path which will provide previously inaccessible areas with pathways, as well as offer wheelchair, cycle, and horse paths for easier access to the coastline.
Wales, which is bordered by three separate coastlines, already possesses some of the best coastal walkways in Britain. Routes such as the Pembrokeshire National Park in south Wales, and Cardigan Bay, where Britain’s yearly pod of bottlenose dolphins can be seen, are just some of the charming coastal spots to be improved upon with this new funding.
The additional £16 million will be spent on green tourism projects. Projects will include cycle paths, visitor centres, wildlife attractions, and ecotourism projects in more pastoral areas of Wales. The overall goal is to promote eco-friendly tourism, as well as establish green jobs which will aid in the ongoing battle against global recession.
