Wales offshore wind farm to power 60,000 household

Off the coast of Wales stands the countries largest wind farm, the Rhyl Flats. It was officially opened by the company’s secretary Peter Hain and is expected to be operational at the end of the month.

Rhyl Flats is considered a landmark in the UK. The project is the ninth-completed offshore wind farm in the country.

Mr. Hain said that Wales can become the world-leader in renewable energy production.

Wales is surrounded by high wind, strong waves and tides. Wales’s natural assets are just waiting to be exploited by potential investors. Wind farm installation can generate jobs and investment that helps to UK’s striving green economy, Peter Hain added.

RWE npower alleged that Rhyl Flats’ 25 offshore turbines, generating 96MW of electricity, can provide electricity to 60,000 homes.

Jurgen Grossman of German RWE Company said that by the year 2020, there is a possibility of 86,000 jobs created and billions invested into the UK’s economy by developing wind and tidal resources.

Early this year, the total number of wind farm installed in the UK reached 4GW that’s generates power 2.3 million household said by the Renewable Energy Magazine in its October edition.

On the other hand, Gwynt y Mor Company will be the third offshore wind farm in Wales. The company was granted last December to install 250 turbines across the 10 miles from the north of Wales’s coast.

The government of the UK encourages companies to install more turbines offshore that can produce 50MW of power.

Both the government of Wales and the UK itself targets clean and renewable energy production in the aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
