Water For Light

Posted on: May 2nd, 2008 by Emma Young

As a 20th century consumer, it is common to overlook the energy needed to power all of our gadgets and gizmos. The more products that enter the market, the more we buy and plug into the wall for a charge. But, this energy is something that costs not only our pocketbooks, but our Earth. In an attempt to cut electricity usage and save money, many consumers are turning back the hands of the clock and using water power to form the electricity they need and use every day.

The key to hydropower production is the fact that there are no pollutants produced during the process. The energy created is 100% free of any Earth hurting results. But, there are troubles with the production of hydroelectricity.

Many of the hydroelectric plants are housed inside dams on rivers. These dams may effect the natural progression of the fish and other living inhabitants of the rivers eco system. Several dams have chosen to create water “ladders” in order for the fish to swim from one side of the dam to the other in an attempt to blend as naturally within the environment as possible.

Water power is currently being produced in 5 United States cities with more than 25% of all hydroelectric being produced in the state of Washington. Hydroelectric power is the ultimate in money conserving options and consumers should look at the close horizon for options to utilize the power of water for the production of readily usable home electric.
