Wind farm trip fails

Posted on: June 24th, 2008 by Emma Young

None of the villagers of Abbots Bromley made the trip to Scotland that was meant to expose the locals to a wind energy scheme that would be similar to the one that would be developed in their locality.

Airtricity which is based in Ireland had proposed to ferry up to fifty locals to the Dalwinton wind farm which is close to Dumfries. In the end only fourteen who included those who were representing Airtricity were able to make the trip.
While there were some villagers from Anslow, Burton and Hanbury, there was no one from Abbots Bromley.

Anti-wind farm campaigners concluded that it was because the residents of Abbots Bromley knew the trip was just a public relations gimmick by Airtricity.
Martin Horan, of High Trees Farm, and who is one of the anti-wind farm campaigners was delighted at the zero turnout by the people from Abbots Bromley who would not accept t be fooled.

A representative of Burton on the Staffordshire County Council, Peter Davies, made the journey and he expressed delight at what he saw in Scotland. He termed the trip an eye opener since through he had come to learn all about wind farms. He added that contrary to popular perception the wind farm in Scotland had turned out to be extremely quiet and was not producing any vibrations at all.

Alex Fox, the leader of the East Staffordshire Borough Council, expressed his opposition to the wind farm and argued that it was not possible to show how a wind energy scheme would affect the site in Bagots Park where it would be situated.
